After scooping up the prestigious award for Best Festival at last week’s Prog awards, Be Prog! Will return in 2018 and has announced two of the bands performing at the festival so far.
Situated in the heart of the city of Barcelona in Spain, its the perfect excuse to go on that Spanish holiday you’ve always been talking about AND throw in some expert Prog. Previously the festival has been host to Leprous, Haken, Iamthemorning, Opeth, The Devin Townsend Project, Steven Wilson, Tesseract, Agent Fresco, Camel, Magma, The Pineapple Thief, Meshuggah, Katatonia, Ihsahn, Anathema, Animals as Leaders and the list goes on.
This year, on June 29th and June 30th the festival’s first performers to be announced are the newly formed Sons of Apollo and the classic heavy weights Pain of Salvation. Both releasing records this year, In The Passing Light of Day was a real tour de force kicking January 2017 into gear, whereas Sons of Apollo, the brand new outfit featuring ex members of Dream Theater, Mr Big, Guns ‘n’ Roses will be releasing their debut to close out the year in October 2017.
Both powerhouses for very differing reasons, this is not going to be one to miss. Tickets for the festival start off at 100 euros from today 22nd September for the first two hundred tickets, then following that the price will move to 130 euros, hardly unaffordable!
I’m intending to take the plunge this year, having heard of the festival myself, Poble Espanol is meant to be an absolutely gorgeous setting that will no doubt be made even better by the arrival of some good natured PROG! Be Prog! My Friend organisers state :
We are very pleased to share with you the first two bands for the 5th Be Prog! My Friend festival. Sons of Apollo are a supergroup featuring Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Billy Sheehan and Jeff Scott Soto who have joined forces to create this amazing project. This is the first European show they’ve announced. They will release ‘Psychotic Symphony’ next month but if you have listened to their song “Coming Home” you know that this is a supergroup who can create brilliant music to back it up. This is really a very special opportunity to see all these names on the same stage. Joining them are Pain of Salvation who recently released their colossal album ‘In The Passing Light Of Day’ which has made them a must see in the progressive world. Seeing them live is simply a blast so for the festival next year we needed to have them play.
